Welcome!

My name is Irina and I'm a delightfully obsessive and nerdy twenty-something as well as a food lover, travel junkie, crazy cat lady, shopaholic, teaholic and chocoholic with a newly-found passion for running. I'm still exploring the world with wide eyes and an open mind. Join me on my journey...the more the merrier!

Way Back When…

Go Exploring!

Dreaded Dentist

Hello hello!  It’s Saturday meaning today is already a fine day. My plan for the day is simple: Six Flags Great America!! This year, my company is hosting its annual Chicago office outing at Six Flags and I’m not one to pass up on an old favorite place of mine. As a teenager, I used to purchase a season pass almost every year. Eventually, my body grew too accustomed to the roller coasters and I no longer got that “stomach in my mouth” feeling associated with the free-fall of a high drop. After breaking up with Six Flags for a few years, I’m back with a vengeance!

I must say, this work week was particularly tough and working from home yesterday + today’s Six Flags trip kept me motivated to get over the hump. Thursday’s drive home couldn’t come fast enough! As per tradition, I ate my favorite sweet ‘n’ salty snack while driving back home:

(Salty spelt pretzels + sweet dates = AMAZING! Try it)

Another thing that has been pulling me forward through this busy week?

The promise of Autumn in the air. Oh how I love thee.

While my Thursday nights are usually gloriously spent reuniting with my bed, this past Thursday was different…I had a date with the dentist :( Let me just preface this by saying that I have seven cavities from childhood. I basically lived off of candy! Nowadays, I treat my teeth with care, but I still fear the dentist from past trauma. My fears came true when she told me I had to have two fillings, but luckily they were both minor touch-ups for old fillings. After returning home (with a new toothbrush!) I did what any normal person does after a trip to the dentist…

…I ate ice cream remains (Arctic Zero) with chocolate chips and sweet corn puffs!

After snacking, sleep started off with this:

Why is my alarm set for 2AM? I told you I was brainwashed. I wanted to pre-order the new iPhone and even set my computer on a pillow next to me:

But as I slowly clicked through the order process with one eye open at 2AM, I realized that I couldn’t place the order without some key pieces of information. Fail. Now I have to wait until the day of the release (this upcoming Friday), stand in line, and hope that there are phones still available by the time I get to the register. I hate myself sometimes because I have these pathetic first world problems. Please don’t judge me, I have an obsessive personality (it’s awful).

One more thing – last night I watched Taken and it terrified me. Talk about a reality check! It’s so easy to travel to new places with a false sense of security, but it’s so important for females to realize that sex trafficking is a serious danger. Stay safe, ladies!

Ok I lied, one more thing – I’m running a race this weekend!

I Run Chicago 8K – I’ll be representing the Illini engineers!

Aaand I signed up for a race with my sister! We’ll be running the Run For Blood 5K together on September 23rd. Hooray for sister teams ← basically my dream come true :)

On a final note, a huge THANK YOU to all for wishing my parents a happy anniversary! You guys seriously rock.

Ok that’s enough whining/randomocity from me, I’m off to enjoy my rollercoaster-filled Saturday!

Enjoy your weekend!

Do you enjoy roller coasters and amusement parks?

Have you seen ‘Taken’? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Any other Chicagoans out there planning on running either the I Run Chicago 8K or the Run For Blood 5K?

♥ Irina

  • I’ve been to the Six Flags near me (I think twice) when I was younger, and never was able to go on an upside down coaster. I think the “scariest” roller coaster I went on so far (for me anyways) was Colossus at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Speaking of Taken, have you seen Whistleblower? It talks about trafficking and is a pretty interesting film. I recommend it.

The I Run Chicago shirt looks really cute :) ! I wish that my sis would get into running so we could sign up for races together. So far, I’m looking at running solo for now :P !

    • You need to conquer those upside-down roller coasters! The upside-down part passes so quickly that you don’t even realize what happened :) It would be so much fun to visit all the different Six Flags theme parks – so many different rides, so little time!

I just Googled Whistleblower and immediately added it to my “must-watch” list (yes I keep a list on my phone!). The movie received amazing reviews and looks great. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • sweet and salty combo, so freaking good. never would have thought of those two foods together. Good luck in the race! I love that race shirt, orange is my fav color.

    • You must try that combo! And I can totally see orange looking fantastic on you. It’s sadly not my color, which is unfortunate because I spent 4 years of my life reppin’ it in college (orange n’ blue)!

  • Taken is TERRIFYING! I’ve seen it several times and that one scene in the house gets me every time!

  • Ahh yes, the dentist. I dont like going to the dentist either.

YES! I love love love roller coasters and amusement parks! <3

    • Dentists are seriously probably some of the most hated “doctors” (I know they aren’t doctors but you know what I mean :) ). It’s sad but who likes someone digging through their mouth? Ugh

  • I grew up in Lindenhurst (right next to where Great America is located) so I had a season pass when I was growing up. And I had a ton of friends who worked there! Gone are the days, however, when I could stomach all of the rides. But I do love the atmosphere of amusement parks! I absolutely love going to Disney!!!!!!

How did the I Run Chicago 8K go this past weekend!?!?!?!?

    • You need to make another trip there! I hadn’t gone in a while and all the rush & excitement came back the moment I stepped foot in the park again. It’s like a whole new experience!

The run didn’t go well at all :( I felt horrible and barely finished. Pathetic but oh well…it happens!

  • I never thought of that sweet and salty pretzel/date combo! Deff trying it now though, I love dates as of this summer! I love amusement parks! I live by Busch Gardens Williamsburg <3 But I used to be so scared of roller coasters! Conquered that fear!

    • You must try the combo! It’s delicious I promise. I am so jealous that you’ve been to Busch Gardens! That’s one of my must-visit places. Congrats on conquering your fear! All those amazing roller coasters were so worth it :)
